Underknown Works Off The Grid for Solar Day

It’s a bit of an understatement to say that 2020 has brought a lot of change to the workplace. The traditional office has evolved to remote work-from-home situations full of pets, children and endless snacks. However, the evolution of the office is something that Steve Hulford, the CEO of Underknown has been questioning long before 2020.

That’s why in 2019, the team at Underknown moved our office into the forest for a day.

Hulford explains: “We spent 8 hours working from a forest. We generated our own power with 400 watts of solar, 2200 watts of battery which powered 12 laptops, Jira coffee maker, Sonos, and an Internet router. All of our gear is complements of Inergy. We had internet service from Bell – hitting 70mbps down and 12 mbps up – plenty to run the office.”

We like to question the status quo and do things a little bit differently at Underknown. Our goal is to change people’s perspectives by creating fun, educational content that makes them look to the sky instead of the ground.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to hang white boards from trees and have team meetings in a forest, wonder no more.

I’m curious, how has your workplace changed in 2020? How will it change in the next few years? Currently, our team has been working from home (since March) and we continue to see great productivity.
