Vacancy: Freelance Video Editor
About the role
We’re building a roster of trusted freelance editors who can be matched with Underknown projects on an ongoing, per-video basis as opportunities come up.
As a freelance editor, you will work from a clear creative brief and collaborate with producers, showrunners, and creative leads to turn scripts, footage, voiceover, graphics, music, archival material, and sourced visuals into polished, engaging episodes.
The ideal candidate is fast, flexible, self-directed, and comfortable working across social-first formats. You should have strong editorial instincts, understand digital storytelling, and be able to make creative choices that improve pacing, clarity, emotion, and audience retention.
Responsibilities will vary depending on the project assignment, and can include long-form Youtube videos, editing for streaming platforms, short form social videos, and podcasts.
Location: Ontario, Canada
Responsibilities
- Proven experience editing digital video
- Strong command of Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Creative Cloud workflow.
- Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects, motion graphics, and graphics templates is an asset.
- Ability to source footage from stock, archival, fair-use, public domain, or other approved sources.
- Experience with sound design, music selection, audio cleanup, and basic mixing.
- Strong sense of pacing, structure, tone, and audience retention.
Qualifications you bring
- You have a strong portfolio of long-form YouTube or social-first editing work
- You’re self-directed, deadline-driven, and comfortable working remotely
- You have a sharp editorial instinct — you know what to cut, what to linger on, and why
- You’re technically proficient across the full post-production pipeline
- You take feedback well and consistently elevate your work through revision
- You’re genuinely interested in YouTube and understand the storytelling grammar of the platform
- You are familiar with emerging AI tools and are thoughtful about how they can support creative work, research, footage discovery, editing, or workflow efficiency.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
